Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia has dismissed all reports claiming that the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s will be the last match of Rohit Sharma’s international career.
According to an Indian media report, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia strongly denied the news and said that there was no discussion in the board about Rohit Sharma’s retirement.
Speaking to the Indian media, Devajit Saikia said that Rohit Sharma is an important player in the team and there has been no talk of declaring Lord’s ODI as his last match.
He also said: Rohit Sharma is a permanent member of the Indian ODI team and will continue to represent the country as long as he is part of the team’s plans and now the whole team is focused on the important match against England, so there is no need to listen to these speculations.
It is worth noting that some Indian media reports said that the selectors have decided to plan for the future without veteran opener Rohit Sharma ahead of preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, so the Lord’s ODI could be his last international match.
It can be mentioned here that the rumors about Rohit Sharma’s future started when he failed to play big innings in the first two ODIs against England.
Rohit Sharma scored 11 runs in the first ODI and 26 runs in the second ODI against the English team after which questions were raised about his form and future. The final and third ODI match of the series between the teams of the two countries will be played at Lord’s tomorrow.
