The importance of the 2027 ODI World Cup matches has increased after the new ICC World Cup format.

According to the details, the winner of this 10-team tournament will advance to the main stage of the World Cup and will not need to play the Super Series tournament.

According to sources, the tournament is expected to start in 2027 while its host and final schedule is yet to be announced.

The format of the competition is likely to be similar to the 2023 qualifiers with 10 teams divided into two groups followed by a Super Six stage.

Under the new ICC system, the top eight teams in the ODI rankings until September 2026, along with South Africa and Zimbabwe as hosts, will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the winner of the matches will also enter the main stage.

The second, third and fourth teams will play in a super series where only one team will advance to the next stage and the rest will be eliminated from the event after two matches.

A total of 10 teams will take part in the competitions, including two full member teams in the bottom tier, four best teams from League 2 and four teams from the playoffs.
