Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Aurangzeb says Rs 150 million sanctioned for Pakistan Hockey Federation.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Maryam Aurangzeb in which he said that a short, medium and long term plan has been prepared for the revival of hockey in Punjab.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that it is decided to hold hockey tournaments in schools and colleges across Punjab and hockey uniforms, protective equipment, shirts, shoes and salaries will be given to the players.
While approving international coaches and head coaches to train the players, he said that a network of hockey academies would be established across Punjab and former Olympians would be entrusted with the responsibility of training the youngsters.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that consideration has also been given to the construction of international standard hockey stadiums at each division base and turf and modern lighting will also be installed for the hockey players.
He said that a talent hunt program has been started at the school level, from which the best players will be trained abroad.
Maryam Aurangzeb directed to organize the annual Punjab Hockey Super League in collaboration with the Hockey Federation and also directed to adopt a strategy for the revival of hockey from the corporate sector.
In the meeting, he directed the reorganization of the women’s hockey team, the launch of a special hockey league in girls’ colleges and also directed the creation of a financial mechanism under public-private partnership for the revival of the sport and recommended the approval of 70 million donations for the 2nd season of Pakistan Idol for the revival of culture and music.
