MIAMI:
France captain Kylian Mbappe became the top scorer in FIFA World Cup 2026 with 22 goals and achieved another historic feat.
Despite France losing 6-4 to England in the third round play-off, Mbappe scored twice to not only boost his team’s comeback hopes, but also surpass Lionel Messi’s record.
Mbappe scored in the 48th minute of the match to equal Messi’s World Cup goals tally of 21, before adding a second goal in the 66th minute to take his tally to 22 and become the best goalscorer in World Cup history.
The French star reached 10 goals in the tournament and won the Golden Boot.
All eyes now turn to the final where Argentina’s Lionel Messi will try to take the Golden Boot away from Mbappe in what could be his final World Cup match against Spain.
On the other hand, England won the third place in the 2026 World Cup by defeating France 6-4.
Bokayo Saka scored a hat-trick for England and Jude Bellingham also scored to take his tally to 7 goals in the tournament.
