It is the first and golden opportunity for former Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam to win the Pakistan Super League (PSL) trophy as captain.

Peshawar Zalmi reached the final for the first time under his leadership. The right winger joined Peshawar Zalmi from Karachi Kings in 2022.

In 2016, Babar Azam played the first edition of PSL under Misbah-ul-Haq for Islamabad United, where he had the chance to play only 2 matches. Babar Azam was not part of Islamabad United who beat Quetta Gladiators in the final.

Babar Azam was a part of Karachi Kings from 2017 to 2021. In 2020, Karachi Kings won the title by defeating Lahore Qalandars under the captaincy of Imad Wasim at the National Stadium.

Winning for Karachi Kings, Babar Azam scored 554 runs in 11 matches played in 2020 at a strike rate of 132.53.

Babar Azam has been in fine form in the recent PSL, scoring 588 runs at 146.26 in 10 matches.
