FIFA has confirmed the introduction of several new rules in the 2026 World Cup.

According to the report of the global news agency, FIFA and the International Football Association Board (IFAB) announced important changes in the rules of the game a few days before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

These new rules will come into effect at the World Cup itself and will later become part of the 2026-27 season as well.

Under the new rules, if a player intentionally delays a shot or goal by more than five seconds, the opposing team will be awarded an advantage.

Similarly, a player undergoing physical therapy during a match must remain out of the field for one minute, except for the defender and some exceptions.

According to FIFA Chief Executive Pierluigi Collina, the changes are aimed at eliminating time wastage, increasing the speed of the game and improving the spectator experience.

According to the new regulation, a red card can also be shown to a player who hides his face during a fight or dispute.

VAR’s powers have also been expanded to review corner kick decisions and other yellow card exclusions.

A player recalled for substitution must have 10 seconds to leave the field at the nearest point.

If they fail to do so, the substitute cannot enter the field for at least one minute until the next stoppage of play, meaning their team must continue with 10 men.

Additionally, a three-minute hydration break will be given at approximately the 22nd minute of each half to allow the players to improve in the intense heat.
