The West Indies cricket team has announced the 15-member squad for the home series against Sri Lanka.

The three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka is scheduled from June 3 to 8 at Sabina Park Jamaica and the home team is led by Shahi Hope.

The West Indies team saw the return of key players, with fast bowler Al-Zari Joseph making his first ODI squad from last year’s tour of Australia after recovering from a back injury, while spinner Gadkesh Moti also returned after missing the New Zealand tour.

Fast bowlers Shamar Joseph and Jayden Sales are also in the squad, but the West Indies board has already made it clear that the workload of the three fast bowlers will be carefully balanced.

Added Shahi Hope (captain), Akeem August, John Campbell, Kichi Carty, Ruston Chase, Matthew Ford, Justin Greaves, Shimron Hetmyer, Amir Jango, Alzari Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Gadakish Moti, Sherif Rutherford, Jaden Sales, Shamar Springer.

Head coach Darren Sammy said that Sri Lanka is a strong and talented ODI team, so West Indies will have to show discipline, better fielding, responsible batting and consistent bowling.

Darren Sammy also promised that the West Indies want home conditions to be their strong point in ODI cricket.

The first ODI between West Indies and Sri Lanka will be played on June 3, the second on June 6 and the last ODI on June 8.

It must be noted that this series is crucial for the West Indies in their ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup qualification campaign. Tenth in the ODI rankings, the West Indies are still outside the direct qualification positions.
