WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain at a stadium in New York, New Jersey on Sunday, the White House confirmed.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt confirmed at a press conference Thursday that President Trump expects to attend the World Cup finals.
He said the president’s presence would mark the end of what proved to be the most watched, safest and most successful World Cup in American history.
Carolyn Levitt added that she doesn’t know which team President Trump will support in the finals.
He also said that President Trump will also attend the FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York on Friday.
Recall that FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on June 23 that President Donald Trump will present the trophy to the winning team at the World Cup finals on July 19.
On the other hand, according to media reports, it is expected that more than 80,000 spectators will be present at the stadium in the World Cup final, and about 50,000 people will watch the match on a big screen in the center of Manhattan, New York City.
It is worth remembering that the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played on Sunday between Argentina and Spain, and on Saturday night England will meet France in the third-tier competition.
