ICC to maintain new ‘Super Series’ format for World Cup qualification
The council has introduced the Super Series format for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which has drawn much criticism.
The Super Series format will feature the lowest ranked 3 teams and 2 sides will be eliminated from the tournament after playing only two matches.
The ICC has approved major changes in the ODI and T20 World Cup formats
According to sources, the ICC working group had considered limiting the 2027 World Cup to 10 teams, just like 2019 and 2023.
A related proposal was also supported by many members but ultimately retained the pre-determined 14-team format with minor changes.
