The World Cricket Association has objected to the decision of the new format of the 2027 One Day World Cup announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The World Cricketers Association (WCA) says that in 2021, 14 teams were announced to play directly in 2 groups, but now the format has changed.
According to the new ICC format, the top three qualified teams will play the preliminary round and then the super round.
The World Cricketers’ Association stated that the new format would limit the real opportunities for new teams to qualify for the World Cup, saying it was inappropriate to change the structure of the World Cup after years of planning, investment and quality.
The World Cricketers’ Association says the ICC did not meaningfully consult the players and other stakeholders before taking such an important decision.
WCA President Tom Moffat said in his statement that the change in the format of world events should be done clearly, with a clear attitude and after consultation.
The World Cricketers Association said there was a conflict between the claim of global development of cricket and the decision to reduce the opportunities for new teams.
On the other hand, the captain of the Netherlands, Scott Edwards, said that the opportunity for the cooperative teams to play against the big teams is the source of their development and the development of cricket.
On the other hand, Ireland captain Paul Stirling says that as junior and senior teams raise the standard of international events, cricket should be given more opportunities like football.
Scotland’s Richie Barrington said players don’t want to make every decision but their opinion should be taken into account in decisions that affect careers.
