Report: Shakeel Yameen Kanga.Pakistan won the Diamond Jubilee football tournament by defeating Afghanistan thanks to brilliant performances by Sheikh Dost and Haroon Hameed in the final match.
The Pakistan team reached the final of an independent international tournament for the first time since the Amardeka Cup held in Malaysia in 1962. Thus, after 64 years, Pakistan won the final.
Pakistan defeated Afghanistan 0-2 in the final of the four-nation football tournament being played at the National Football Stadium in Maldives.
The first goal of the game was scored by Shaiq Dost in the 24th minute of the game and the second goal was scored by Harun Hamid at the end of the game.
The teams of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Maldives and Bangladesh met in the tournament. Pakistan had defeated Afghanistan 0-2 in the last match of the tournament, so Pakistan had a psychological advantage against Afghanistan in the final.
Pakistan reached the finals with two wins and one draw in three matches and ranked first with 7 points, while Afghanistan team got 4 points from one match and one draw and thus became the second finalist team.
PFF President Mohsin Geelani announced the awards for players and officials
Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Mohsin Gilani congratulated the national team coach Nolberto Solano and the players for winning the tournament.
Mohsin Gilani said in his message that after 6 decades the national team won the tournament with its magnificent performance.
He said that this is a great gift of Pakistani players to the nation.
He also announced monetary rewards for the principal and players and officials.
