The opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games is being held in Glasgow today, King Charles, Queen Comilla and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham will be the chief guests in this ceremony which will be held at 12 pm Pakistan time.
More than 3,000 athletes from 74 countries, including Pakistan, are scheduled to arrive in Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games. In the opening ceremony, Ershad Nadim will lead Paksani forces in the march. Twenty one athletes from Pakistan will showcase their skills in six sports, athletics, swimming, judo, gymnastics, lawn tennis and gymnastics. Pakistan won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the Birmingham Games.
Pakistan’s Chief of Mission, General Adil Rahmani, represented the country at the Summit, where the organizers gave detailed information about the opening ceremony.
Officials of the Pakistan contingent present in Glasgow attended various meetings. In the meeting of Commonwealth Sports Ministers under the chairmanship of MNA Ali Zahid, DG Pakistan Sports Authority Yawar Hussain, Secretary General of Pakistan Commonwealth Games Association Khalid Mehmood, Counselor of Pakistan High Commission in UK Naila Asrar were also present.
At the meeting, Ali Zahid presented Pakistan’s position regarding the development of joint sports and emphasized his country’s commitment to strengthen cooperation and advance the common goals of the Joint Sports Community.
The delegation of Pakistan also held several meetings with ministers, diplomats and leaders of the Joint Sports Movement. During these meetings, the visiting delegation discussed several issues of mutual interest, including opportunities for cooperation, ongoing initiatives and future plans aimed at strengthening cooperation and promoting the development of sports in the Commonwealth countries. These games will continue until August 2.
