Wellington: New Zealand are making a big splash with the country’s leading international run-scorer Kane Williamson announcing his retirement from international cricket.
He made his debut for New Zealand in 2010 and during his career played 378 international matches including 110 Tests, 175 ODIs and 93 T20 Internationals.
Kane Williamson also led the Black Caps from 2016 to 2024 and under his stewardship played an important role in leading the team to 2 ICC World Cup finals, three semi-finals and the Test Championship in 2021.
On announcing his retirement, Kane Williamson said he had been thinking about the decision for a long time and now felt the time was right to retire from international cricket.
He said that representing New Zealand has always been a source of pride for him and he is satisfied that he has shown his best in every match.
Black Caps head coach Rob Walter praised Williamson saying he was not only a great player but also a wonderful person, a great leader and an ambassador for cricket.
According to New Zealand Cricket, Kane Williamson will miss the ongoing Test against England after announcing his retirement, while his replacement will be announced later.
