FIFA president Gianni Infantino clearly announced that despite the political and diplomatic tensions, Iran has confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played in America.
Infantino said at the FIFA congress in Vancouver that Iran will not only participate in the World Cup, but will play its matches in America. He said that the goal of football is to connect the world and this decision is based on this principle.
It is worth mentioning that the 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, but when the tension between the United States and Iran increased, questions were raised about Iran’s participation.
US officials also point out that Iranian athletes will be allowed to participate, but some security and visa barriers will remain, especially for those with ties to certain organizations.
On the other hand, Iran’s non-participation in the FIFA congress has revealed the sensitivity of this issue, at a time when the global debate continues on how different sports and politics are.
Iran has already qualified for the 2026 World Cup and this will be the seventh participation in its history, but after this latest statement by the FIFA president, there is no confirmation or denial from Iran.
