India won the first match of the tri-series ODI between India and England by 6 wickets.
In the first one-dayer played at the Birmingham Stadium, England won the ball and elected to bat first and after scoring 258 runs in 48 overs, all their players were dismissed.
Joe Root stood with 76 runs for the English team, he faced 76 balls which included 6 fours and 1 six.
On behalf of India, Akshar Patel dismissed 4 players, Parsid Krishna and Gurnoor Brar took 2 wickets each, Jasprit Bumra and Shivam Dubey took a wicket each.
The Indian team scored 259 runs for the loss of 4 wickets on the 46th over. India opener Shibman Gill retired after scoring 80 runs, Washington Sundar and Akshar Patel were not out on 52 and 57 respectively.
Jofra Archer along with Josh Ting and Sam Curran took a wicket each for the hosts.
The next ODI of the series between the teams of the two countries will be played tomorrow and the final match will be played on July 19.
It may be recalled that earlier a series of 5 T20 matches were played between the two teams which were won by England 4-0, while the first T20 was a draw.
