Report: Soheyl Imran. Cricket Australia has announced that for the first time in the history of the Big Bash League (BBL), the opening match will be played outside Australia.

According to Cricket Australia, the opening match of the BBL season will be played between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades in Chennai, India on December 12.

The BBL management says that the inaugural match of the league in India will give the league global recognition and growth.

The Big Bash League schedule was jointly announced by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The event was held on the sidelines of a visit to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where the two leaders announced the programme.
