After leading Egypt to their first knockout stage win at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, team captain Mohamed Salah was emotional, saying it was one of the best days of his life and the whole team made history.

Speaking to the media after beating Australia on penalties to reach the semi-finals, Mohamed Salah said, “We can’t take this achievement for granted because Egypt have progressed from the group stage of the World Cup for the first time.

Mohamed Salah said: “I am always proud to wear the Egyptian shirt, there is no greater honor for me.” Seeing my friends happy and enjoying that moment is the greatest joy for me.

The captain of Egypt said: “Today is one of the best days of my life, we made history as a team and all the glory of this success goes to my friends, they wrote history.”

It is worth remembering that Egypt created a new history in the FIFA World Cup with a good performance and defeated Australia 4-2 after a thrilling penalty shootout and won the World Cup for the first time.

With the win, Egypt secured their first FIFA World Cup berth and will now face defending champions Argentina in the pre-quarterfinals on July 7 at the Atlanta Stadium.
