London:
Thanks to the responsible batting of women’s cricket team captain Nate Sciver-Brent and excellent performance by the bowlers, England reached the final of the T20 World Cup by beating South Africa by 40 runs.
In the semi-final played at The Oval, England struggled initially and lost three wickets for just 23 runs.
However, captain Nate Sciver-Brent returned from injury to play a memorable innings of 75 runs off 47 balls.
He added 133 runs off 90 balls in a fourth wicket partnership with veteran Heather Knight to put the team in a strong position.
Heather Knight also played an excellent innings of 58 runs off 47 balls to take England to a total of 169 runs for 5 wickets.
In pursuit of the target, the South African team looked helpless against England’s brilliant fielding and nippy bowling.
Sophie Eccleston took two important catches and took one wicket, while Lauren Bell and Charlie Deane took two wickets each.
Lenzie Smith and Freya Kemp picked up one wicket each while Danny White-Hodge scored a vital wicket in the direct toss.
With this victory, England revived their hopes of winning the world title for the first time since 2017.
