Report: Feyzan Lakhani. The federal government has prepared the new National Sports Policy 2026 after 20 years. In the new sports policy, it was decided to give autonomy to national sports federations and POAs.
According to the proposed sports policy, the federations will run their affairs independently within the framework of the constitution of their related organization. The amendments under the 18th Amendment are proposed to be officially part of the Sports Policy.
There is also a proposal for the National Sports Coordination Board to run the administrative affairs of sports. In the new sports policy, it is proposed to establish a sports development fund.
Provinces are recommended to spend at least 2 percent of their annual development program on sports. Private investment in sports leagues, academies and infrastructure will be encouraged.
In the new sports policy, emphasis has been placed on increasing professional leagues and sports broadcasting. The proposed policy proposes compulsory sports competitions at the school and university level, while it is recommended to create a talent hunt system and athlete database at the national level.
The new sports policy proposes a contract, medical insurance and pension plan for the players. It is proposed to establish institutes of sports sciences, sports medicine and data analytics.
The performance of the National Sports Federations will be reviewed every three months. The new sports policy of 2026 aims to move the sports system from bureaucracy to autonomy.
