Los Angeles: In the first half of the FIFA World Cup match between the United States and Paraguay, Damien Bobadilla of Paraguay mistakenly put the ball into his team’s net, giving the United States a chance to take a 1-0 lead.
This event did not happen for the first time with the American team. On June 22, 1994, a match was played between the USA and the favorite Colombia in the soccer world cup.
Andre Escobar tried to clear the cross from the American player John Harkes in the 35th minute of the game, but the ball went into the net of his team.
As a result of this defeat, Colombia did not advance, tragically, goalscorer Andre Escobar was killed after returning home.
