Mike Hesson said that ahead of the ODI World Cup, the team needs to work more on scoring and wicket-taking in the powerplay as this area has not improved in the last one year. He said that to reduce the pressure should be worked on the average strike rate.
Pakistan Cricket Team Chief Mike Hesson while giving a press conference in Rawalpindi said that the national team has been camping in Lahore for the last ten days and the confidence of the players has clearly increased in the last one year.
Regarding Muhammad Rizwan, he said that before his arrival, Rizwan was not only a part of the T20 team but also the captain, but after the West Indies series, the team management felt that there was a need to change the captaincy as the team could not give the desired performance. The head coach clarified that the selection in the team is always done considering the individual performance or the need of the team. He said that opportunities were given to young players in the Bangladesh series when Mohammad Rizwan was also part of the team. According to him, the World Cup is decided for next year and the team management is considering various options.
On the record against Australia, he said that Australia’s ODI record has always been very good while Pakistan failed to beat them several times. On the question of the deputy commander, Mike Hesson said that he is not aware of the official announcement of Salman Ali Akha’s deputy commander, but Salman Ali Axa has been acting as the deputy commander in the last 5 series.
