England’s historic 132-year-old golf course will soon be a thing of the past. The local council approved the settlement project on the 18-hole course.
Red Hill and Reigate Golf Course (one of Surrey’s oldest golf courses) will be demolished to replace it with 10 new homes. The project was officially approved by Reigate and Benstead Borough Council this month.
Established in 1877, this golf club was one of Surrey’s oldest golf courses. Only Guildford Golf Club, founded a year earlier in 1886 at Merrow Downs, is older.
When this golf club opened, there was only one 9-hole course. However, it was later expanded to an 18-hole golf course.
Now the historic site, which has hosted golf enthusiasts for more than a century, is set to be redeveloped for housing, ending an important phase in Surrey’s sporting history.
