Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, the co-host country of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, welcomed the hosting of the Iranian team in her country. According to President Sheinbaum, this decision was made when America apologized for hosting the Iranian team.

The president of Mexico told the media: “The United States does not want the Iranian team to spend the night there, even though Iran has to play three matches there.” FIFA contacted us and asked us if the Iranian team can stay in Mexico or not. That’s what we agreed on. We are not worried about this.’

Later, FIFA confirmed that the training base of the Iranian team will be in the city of Tijuana on the Mexican border.

It is worth mentioning that because of the American attacks against Iran, clouds of uncertainty were rising over Iran’s participation in the World Cup. According to the schedule, the World Cup will be hosted jointly by America, Canada and Mexico, and Iran should play 3 matches in American cities (Los Angeles and Seattle).

On the other hand, Iran’s Sports Minister Ahmed Dunyamali confirmed that the president of FIFA has confirmed the Iranian players to get American visas.

It is worth remembering that the Football Federation of Iran had set some conditions before FIFA to participate in the World Cup, including the request to grant visas to players and officials who served in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

In this regard, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says, Iranian athletes will welcome Iranian athletes, but the people may face the Revolutionary Guards.

Recently, Canada also denied visas to Iranian football officials because of their relationship with the Revolutionary Guards.
