The letter that FIFA president Gianni Infantino sent to Argentina’s Football Federation President Claudio Tapia has come to light.
The letter comes as FIFA conducts an official investigation into the altercation between players on the pitch at the end of the final against Spain.
In his letter, Gianni Infantino, referring to the final played on July 19, 2026, wrote, ‘Argentina won the silver medal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a thrilling final against Spain. I congratulate from the bottom of my heart for this great success of Argentine football.’
He also wrote, ‘Argentina’s excellent performance in the World Cup made this a memorable tournament. The work, professionalism and love of the players and head coach Lionel Scaloni is the basis of this success.
It is worth mentioning that after the overtime defeat of Spain in the World Cup final, the atmosphere in the ground was tense, most of the Argentinian players turned their backs during the cup lifting ceremony by the Spanish team, and after the match there was tension between the players. FIFA is currently investigating the incident.
