Report: Feyzan Lakhani. An analysis of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Finals disciplinary data shows that Argentina is the team with the most fouls in the tournament, but they are not at the top in terms of the number of yellow cards.
According to statistics, Argentina have committed a total of 88 fouls against their opponents so far, which is the most of any team. Despite this, the team was shown only 9 yellow cards.
Egypt is ahead of Argentina on the list of yellow cards with 12 and Canada with 11, although Egypt has 59 and Canada 72 in the tournament, 16 fewer than Argentina.
Similarly, Switzerland committed 87 fouls and received 8 yellow cards, while Spain received only 6 yellow cards with 80 fouls. England committed 73 fouls and was shown 8 yellow cards.
It is worth noting here that every foul does not necessarily lead to a yellow card and referees decide based on the nature of the match, the severity of the foul and the conditions of the game.
It is worth noting that despite committing the most fouls, Argentina were not shown a single red card in the tournament, while Switzerland, Belgium, England and Paraguay each faced red cards.
Argentina’s statistics against Spain in the finals show that the team fully utilized the defensive and physical game.
Although severe disciplinary sanctions by referees were not observed in most cases, these statistics cannot draw any definitive conclusions about the referee’s decisions or their quality because the nature and severity of each offense varies.
