Former Indian cricket team captain and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Saru Ganguly has filed a defamation case against Uttam Saha, president of Kolkata’s Argentina Fan Club, seeking Rs 50 crore as damages.

The legal action follows allegations of misconduct at the Indian Stadium during Lionel Messi’s recent visit to Kolkata.

In his complaint, Saru Ganguly said that Uttam Saha’s public statements have seriously damaged his reputation and these allegations were made without solid evidence.

According to Ganguly, these statements are false, malicious, slanderous and defamatory, which are intended to affect his reputation.

Uttam Saha had alleged that Saru Ganguly was acting as a ‘middleman’ with Messi event organizer Satadru Dutta, which Ganguly strongly denied.

Sourav Ganguly clarified that he only attended the event as a guest and has no official connection with the preparations of the event and Messi’s schedule.

His lawyers also sent a legal notice to Uttam Saha and demanded the withdrawal of the case and payment of compensation.

It is worth mentioning that Messi’s arrival at the Kolkata stadium on December 13 went badly due to poor arrangements and lack of crowd control, after which the main organizer of the event, Satadru Dutta, was detained for questioning.

On this incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also apologized on social media and expressed her sorrow to the fans and Lionel Messi.
