It has been reported that former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has given a condition that he will be entrusted with the charge of all three formats in the future before taking over as the Test team captain.
According to international media reports, the selectors have assured him that if the team’s performance in the next five Test matches against West Indies and England is good, then he can be made the full-format captain.
The report claims that the two selectors met Babar Azam before appointing the Test captain as he had limited options after the disappointing results under Shan Masood.
According to sources, Babar always wanted to lead Pakistan in all three formats and he was not ready to accept only the Test captaincy.
Babar Azam stepped down from the all-format captaincy after the ODI World Cup in 2023, after Shan Masood was given the Test lead and Shaheen Shah Afridi was given the limited-overs lead.
Babar Azam says he believes in responsibility again, has learned a lot from past experiences and now his first task is to give maximum success to Pakistan.
However, there is no official confirmation from the Pakistan Cricket Board in this regard.
