In the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the host United States of America started the campaign by defeating Paraguay.
In the opening match of Group D played in Los Angeles, USA easily defeated Paraguay 1-4.
Player Folarin Balogun scored two goals in the first half and played an important role in the success of the American team.
The United States took the lead in the seventh minute of the match when Paraguayan defender Damian Bobadilla accidentally fired the ball into his own net after Weston McKinney’s cross was cleared by Christian Pulisic.
Then, Pulisic provided Balogan with a good cross which he successfully headed into the net.
Before the end of the first half, Balogan scored another nice goal and cut the American lead 0-3.
In the second half, Paraguay played better and substitute Mauricio scored a goal in the 73rd minute, but the American team remained in control.
In the last minutes of the match, Jio Raina scored a goal and made the score 1-4.
After the win, American captain Tim Ream said the team started the tournament the way they wanted, while the Paraguayan players expressed their determination to improve in the upcoming matches.
