Report: Arfa Firoz Zeki. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed says salaries of senior PCB officers range between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 24 lakh per month.
Senate Standing Committee Cabinet Secretariat meeting was held under the chairmanship of Rana Mahmoodul Hasan, where Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed briefed the committee about the salaries of PCB staff and the details of PSL 2026 expenditure, revenue and profit were presented to the Senate Standing Committee secretariat on behalf of PCB.
PCB officials said that with the number of teams in PSL being 8, the profit increased from 2 billion dollars to more than 7 and a half billion.
According to PCB officials, the total revenue of PSL 2026 was more than 10 billion 1952 million rupees, from PSL 2026, PCB earned more than 7 billion 549 million rupees before tax.
The Standing Committee was told that during PSL 2025, PCB earned around Rs 2 billion while during PSL 2024, PCB’s profit was Rs 2 billion 46 million.
In the meeting, PSL Director Usman Wahla said that PSL currently has 8 teams and all of them are run under the franchise model.
Usman Wahla said: The seventh team was sold for 1.75 billion tumens, the eighth team was sold for 1.85 billion tumens and the Multan Sultans franchise was sold for 2.45 billion toumens.
The director of PSL said that in PSL 2026, 8 billion and 80 million rupees came in the form of franchise fee.
He also said that 9.5 billion dollars were received from other sources, the media rights of PSL are being sold.
Usman Wahla said that broadcasting rights, gate fees and sponsorships are the main sources of income for PSL, 95% of PSL funds go to the team and 5% to PCB.
PSL CEO Usman Wahla said the franchisees pay the fee every year as per the draft and all funds are properly audited.
On the other hand, PCB CEO Samier Ahmed said that 3 members of the PCB board are appointed by the prime minister and 11 board members are selected by the PCB president.
Senator Sadiya Abbasi said that the presence of a female member in the board is necessary, all four provinces of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan should be included in the board.
Chairman of the Standing Committee Rana Mahmoud Al Hasan said that the Sultans of Multan are still there or not? On this Sameer Ahmed said that Multan Sultans franchise still exists but its owners have changed.
Samir Ahmed said that there are 16 critical associations in Pakistan, cabinet approval is required to represent the board.
He said that construction of a modern cricket stadium will cost 12 to 14 billion rupees, reconstruction of Karachi cricket stadium will cost 5 billion rupees, Islamabad cricket stadium is being built by CDA.
In this meeting, the performance of PSL for 5 years was also discussed and committee member Salim Mandiwala said that the cost of one team is 1 million, the other is 2 million, nothing is understood, present the whole process in writing.
Senator Sadiya Abbasi asked the PCB authorities what their legal framework is and how the directors are appointed and how the president uses his powers.
