Just three months after the Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup 2026 title under his leadership, star batsman Surya Kumar Yadav was not only stripped of the captaincy but also dropped from his T20 squad.

BCCI Chairman selector Ajit Agarkar announced the squad for the T20I series against Ireland and England and confirmed the release of captain Surya Kumar.

In the press conference, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar explained the reason for this surprising decision and said that it is certainly difficult to make such a decision about Sureya Kumar after winning the World Cup, but usually people look to the future after the World Cup.

“Considering Suriyakumar Yadav’s recent form and the T20 World Cup cycle coming up in the next two years, we felt this was the best way forward,” he added.

It should be noted that although India retained the World Cup under Surya Kumar, his tournament as a batsman was not up to his standards, where he scored 242 runs at a strike rate of 136 in 9 innings.

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer won the trust of the selectors thanks to his batting and leadership in the IPL, he will now be the new captain of the Indian team.
