New Zealand white-ball captain Mitchell Santner has been ruled out of cricket for at least a month with a shoulder injury.

According to New Zealand Cricket, Santner, who will represent Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026, has been diagnosed with a Grade 3 ACL tear in his left arm.

The 34-year-old suffered the injury on April 23 while out against Chennai Super Kings.

New Zealand Cricket says Mitchell Santner has been advised by a specialist to rehabilitate and rest for a month after returning home.

It should be noted that Santner has been ruled out of the one-off Test against Ireland and the first Test against England at Lord’s due to injury, while his availability for the remaining 2 Test matches will be determined later.

It may be noted that Santner played four matches for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026, however he was also absent from New Zealand’s white-ball series against Bangladesh.

Mitchell Santner is expected to be fully fit to lead the New Zealand team for the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies in July.

The New Zealand Cricket Board will soon announce the squad for the Test series against Ireland and England, with Santner likely to be replaced by a new player.
