Report: Soheyl Imran. Sri Lanka Cricket has taken a strict stand on the issue of fitness test and has made it clear that it will be mandatory for players to pass a fitness test before joining any league.

According to the cricket website, Sri Lanka Cricket has adopted a strict policy to promote a culture of fitness and has made it mandatory for players playing in domestic tournaments to pass a fitness test.

23 National Super League players failed the fitness test and the last day to pass the test was set on April 19.

Sri Lanka Cricket has also decided that players who fail to qualify in Tests will be eligible to play but will not receive match fee.

The cricket website also revealed that only 24 of Sri Lanka’s 45 central contracted players have cleared the fitness test.

According to Cricket Web, Wanindu Hasaranga and Mathisha Phatirana are among those who failed the mandatory fitness test and these two players are yet to participate in the Indian Premier League due to failure to undergo the fitness test.

The website also stated that Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup with an injury and is unlikely to regain fitness anytime soon, while Mathisha Pathirana also suffered a calf strain during the World Cup.
