In the final of the T20 World Cup 2026, India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs after a one-sided contest and won the honor of becoming the world champions for the third time.

In the final to be played in Ahmedabad, India registered a mountain-like total against the Kiwis, which the New Zealand batsmen could not overcome.

New Zealand won the toss and invited India to bat first, with the home team and the defending champions posting a huge total on the board.

The Indian top batsman and then the bottom order smoked in the final moments and the team scored 255 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Sanju Samson scored 89 off 46 balls, Abhishek Sharma scored 52 off 21 balls, Ishan Kishan scored 54 runs off 25 balls, the bottom order scored 18 off 13 balls and Shivam Dubey scored 28 off 8 balls.

For New Zealand, Jimmy Neesham dismissed 3 wickets and Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra took a wicket each.

Chasing the target, the New Zealand batsmen looked out of sorts, and the entire team was bowled out for 159 in the 19th over.

For New Zealand, Tim Seifert scored 52 and Mitchell Santner played 47 runs and Daryl Mitchell was dismissed for 17 runs. Apart from them, no other Kiwi batsman could hit double figures.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah 4, Akshar Patel dismissed 3 bowlers and Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakraborty and Abhishek Sharma took a wicket each.
