Karachi:

The poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2026 hit the Pakistani cricketers hard, the PCB imposed a fine of Rs 50.50 lakh, in fact it was decided only after the defeat against India.

According to the sources, the authorities have told the players that the promotion is over, now if they do it, only then they will get financial benefits.

According to reports, in the T20 World Cup, the Pakistan team narrowly escaped defeat in the opening match against the Netherlands, and then lost against the United States. Familiar with the Sri Lankan conditions and the presence of quality spin bowlers, he was expected to perform better against India this time, but like the three matches in the Asia Cup, he was a failure.

After that, they qualified for the Super 8s by beating Namibia, but the match against New Zealand was rained out, then they had to suffer a defeat against England, so reaching the semi-finals was a necessity.

England boosted Pakistan’s hopes by beating the Kiwis, but the team’s narrow win against Sri Lanka failed to improve the run rate, thus New Zealand reached the semi-finals and the journey of the green shirts ended. With this performance, like the fans, the board officials are also very upset with the team.

According to sources, each player has been fined Rs 50,000 in the past few days, the authorities have made it clear to the players that happiness is enough, now they will perform only then they will get financial benefits, while players are rewarded for good performance, fine should also be given for poor performance, in fact, the team came to know about this decision against India only after losing the match.

It is worth remembering that now the annual income of the national cricket players is in crores, the salary of the A category player is 45 thousand rupees per month and the ICC revenue share is 2 million 70 thousand rupees, the B category is paid 3 million 15 million 52 thousand 500 per month to the ICC share.

C category salary is 10 thousand and ICC share is 10 thousand and 35 thousand and D category monthly salary is 7.5 thousand and ICC share is 5 thousand and 17 thousand 500, match fee is different.

No one was in category A in the central contract from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026.

More sources said that PCB introduced the auction model in PSL to provide financial comfort to the players. Veker Sahibzada Farhan had complained some time ago that they are not getting fair compensation.

In the ongoing World Cup, Sahibzada Farhan is ahead with 383 ranks. Surprisingly, other top batsmen Saeem Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Babar Azam and Usman Khan failed to score 100 runs on their own throughout the tournament. Among the bowlers too, except spinner Usman Tariq who took 10 wickets, the performance of others was average.

The national team is currently managed by Mike Hesson, captain Salman Ali Agha is only kept ahead while Shadab Khan participates in the decisions, he is very close to Hesson because of Islamabad United.

Fakhar Zaman was informed before the incident that he would not be part of the playing XI for the opening matches, he was not used properly. When Fakhar got the chance to open against Sri Lanka, he made 84 runs at a strike rate of 200, but by then it was too late.

Senior batsman Babar Azam failed to live up to expectations, Salman suffered worst failure as a batsman while his decisions as captain were also questioned, PCB may have to take tougher decisions in the next few days.
