In the most important match of the T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight, India defeated West Indies to reach the semifinals of the event.
West Indies scored 195 runs for the loss of 4 wickets while batting first in the all-important Group 1 match in the Super Eights stage of the event being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Captain Shay Hope scored 32 runs, Ruston Chase scored 40 runs, Shimron Hitmire scored 27 runs, Sharfin Rutherford scored 14 runs and Roman Powell scored 34 runs and Jason Holder was not out with 37 runs.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets, Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakraborty took one wicket each.
In reply, India eventually reached the target of 196 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Sanju Sampson played an unbeaten innings of 97 runs and played a vital role in leading his team to victory.
Apart from them, Tilak Verma 27, Surya Kumar Yadav 18, Hardik Pandya 17, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan also scored 10 goals.
For West Indies, Jason Holder and Shamar Joseph picked up two wickets each and Akil Hussain took one wicket.
With this victory, India reached the semi-finals of the World Cup.
