Karachi:
Moeen Ali has backed Pakistani cricketers, with the English all-rounder warning that if the players feel Pakistanis are being deliberately ignored by the Indian owners in The Hundred, they will raise their voice against it.
In an interview, he said that it would be very unfortunate to ignore Pakistani cricketers simply on the basis of their nationality, and the English board should take steps to prevent this.
“I don’t think it can happen in the UK, we’ll have to wait and see what happens but it would be very disappointing if it did, I’m sure the ECB will look at it,” he said.
If players feel that The Hundred team owners are discriminating, they will unite and raise their voices, a group of players will certainly speak up.
I think any player who is concerned about such issues should speak up, whether he is of Pakistani background or not, this news is still new, so I haven’t spoken to many people, but most players must be of the same opinion.
Of course, other countries make their own decisions, but in Britain we have a little more power on these issues, these things have been going on for a long time and it’s time to solve them, this is not fair and clearly discriminates against some people, this attitude is very sad.
I’m surprised it’s not talked about more, especially at a higher level, no one talks about it, maybe people don’t speak up to avoid getting in trouble.
He expressed his fear that after the deterioration of India-Bangladesh relations, the Bangladeshi players could face the same fate.
Moeen Ali pointed out that it is not easy for players to talk about this issue because it can affect their career, these teams exist in every league in the world, young players are in a difficult situation, but a big player like me doesn’t worry much anymore.
He said that it is difficult to prove that a player has been overlooked because of his past, but if Pakistani players are not selected for years the issue will be clear.
When the Hundred Teams were sold last year, the ECB probably didn’t think too much about this aspect because we don’t think like that in England.
Moin Ali has expressed his wish that there should be matches between Pakistan and India at a neutral venue in England, this Test will be amazing for cricket and the crowd and enthusiasm will be unbelievable.
