Ireland’s cricket team suffered a major blow at the ICCT World Twenty20 as their captain Paul Stirling pulled out of the World Cup.
Paul Stirling injured his knee in the match against Australia.
A post-match medical examination and scan confirmed knee ligament damage, prompting his early withdrawal from the tournament.
Paul Sterling will now return home for rest and recovery to be fully fit ahead of the home season.
The ICC Incident Technical Committee has approved the inclusion of Sam Topping in the squad as Stirling’s replacement.
Ireland’s high performance manager Graeme West says Paul Stirling’s injury is a big loss for the team, but he hopes Sam Topping will be an effective replacement for the team.
It is worth mentioning that Ireland will play their next match against Oman on Saturday in Colombia and the last match of the group will be played against Zimbabwe on February 17.
