Report: Salman Faruqi. ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup has started and West Indies U-19 Cricket Team head coach Rohan Nurse was impressed with the performance of Pakistan U-19 team players and declared them as strong contenders in the tournament.
In an exclusive interview given to Geo Super, Rohan Nurse openly praised Pakistan’s young players and singled out opening batsmen Samir Minhas, Umar Zeib and all-rounder Mohammed Syam in particular.
Rohan Narse said that Pakistan has talented players like Samir Minhas, young Umer Zeib and Mohammad Syam who will create excitement for the fans in this tournament.
The West Indies U-19 head coach, when asked about the four possible teams in the semi-finals of the tournament, named Pakistan as a strong contender but stopped short of announcing a final list.
Continuing his speech, he said that many teams have great players and that’s why every team has a chance to reach the finals, but definitely Pakistan is among the teams that have the best chance.
Appreciating Pakistan’s performance in the ACC Men’s U-19 Asia Cup, Rohan Nurse said there are many players in the green shirts who have the ability to change the direction of the match.
It is worth mentioning that the Pakistan U-19 Team led by captain Farhan Yousuf defeated India by 191 runs in the final to become the 2025 ACC Men’s U-19 Asia Cup Champion. First, Pakistan scored 347 runs and the Indian team was bowled out for 156 runs.
In the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup, Pakistan team is placed in Group C, where they will compete with England, Scotland and Zimbabwe, while West Indies will play Afghanistan, South Africa and Tanzania in Group D.
The Pakistan U-19 team under the leadership of Farhan Yusuf will start their campaign against England today in Harar. The U-19 World Cup will be played from January 15 to February 6 in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
