Bangladesh’s case regarding participation in the T20 World Cup has become a sore point for the ICC.
According to reports, the issue of Bangladesh not going to the World Cup matches in India has become a problem for the ICC.
Bangladesh Sports Advisor Asif Nazaral has claimed that after receiving a letter from the ICC security team, it is not possible for the Bangladesh team to travel to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Speaking to the media, he said that there has been no progress regarding not playing our matches in India, we have sent two letters to ICC and now we are waiting for the reply of the second letter.
He said that the important thing is that the ICC security team and security officials have sent a letter, in which they have identified three things that can increase the risk to the Bangladesh team.
Sports consultant Asif Nazarl stated that according to the content of the letter, if Mustafizur Rehman joins the team or Bangladeshi fans come to the stadium wearing national shirts, the situation may become complicated. Also, as the elections draw near, the security risks for the Bangladesh team will increase.
He added that this letter clearly proves that it is impossible for the Bangladesh cricket team to play the T20 World Cup in India.
Asif Nazarl said, “If the ICC expects us to form the team without our best game, the fans don’t wear their jerseys and we postpone the elections so that we can play cricket, this is the most unrealistic and impossible expectation.”
He said that the current socio-economic conditions in India and the anti-Bangladesh atmosphere that has been going on for the past 16 months have made Bangladesh unable to play in India.
Asif stated that they will also share the copy of the ICC letter with the media.
On the other hand, Indian media claimed that ICC has decided to shift Bangladesh matches to safe cities in India. Bengal Pilings have to play their first three World Cup matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai under the current schedule.
Reports said that these matches will be shifted to Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram, but the Indian Cricket Board has clarified that the ICC has not ordered the Bangladesh matches to be shifted.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said, “We have not been given any information about changing the venue of the match. We have not received any information about changing the matches of Bangladesh to Chennai or any other city.
Devajit Saikia says, we don’t have any information about this now, if such an instruction is given, we will make preparations accordingly.
It is worth noting that in the current schedule, the Bangladesh team has to play in the T20 World Cup against West Indies on February 7, Italy on February 9 and England on February 14 in Kolkata, the match against Nepal on February 17 in Mumbai.
