The Pakistan cricket team is facing new challenges in the new year

Report: Abdul Majid Bhatti. The Pakistan cricket team faces new challenges in the new year and the biggest test for the green shirts under Salman Ali Agha is the T20 World Cup in February and March, where another big match for Pakistan is against arch-rivals India.

In 2025, the Pakistan team played a total of 56 international matches and Salman Ali Agha was the only Pakistani to play all the matches in all three formats. Pakistan played 56 international matches and won 30 of them.

The T20 team played 34 matches in 2025, winning 21.

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi says that by 2025, Pakistan has achieved success in other sports, including cricket, which is a testament to the hard work of the players.

Successfully hosting the ICC Champions Trophy was a victory for a peaceful and secure Pakistan. The return of cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years has heightened the excitement of the fans and highlighted the professional management of PCB across the world.

After the blasts in Islamabad, the safe conduct of the Sri Lanka series and the Tri-Nation series was a huge challenge which was overcome by the tireless efforts of the security forces. These achievements proved to be a strong milestone for the journey of Pakistan cricket in 2025.

In the new year, full focus will be given to make Pakistan’s cricket more stable, organized and sustainable. Establishing a strong link between domestic and international cricket will further raise the standard.

Mohsin Naqvi said that the courage and support of high performing players will be ensured on merit. Renovating these stadiums, improving facilities and adding new venues will be a priority in 2026.

After 29 years, Pakistan won the big honor by hosting the ICC Champions Trophy. Successfully hosted tri-nation ODI series with New Zealand and South Africa. Pakistan’s hosting capacity was proved by the tri-nation T20 International with Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan won two tri-series titles against Afghanistan, UAE, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Sahibzada Farhan scored 771 runs in 2025 T20 International.

Muhammad Nawaz took 36 wickets in T20 International in 2025. Usman Tariq scored a T20 International hat-trick at the start of his career.

In ODI cricket, Pakistan won series against South Africa and Sri Lanka, but lost the ODI series against West Indies after 34 years.

In Test cricket, Pakistan tied the home series against West Indies and South Africa. Won two out of five tests and lost three. Shan Masood scored 397 runs in Test matches and showed outstanding performance.

At the development level, the Pakistan Shaheens and Under-19 team achieved significant success. Pakistan Shaheens won the Asian Rising Stars Cup.

Pakistan’s U-19 team won the U-19 Asia Cup by defeating India in the final and Pakistan won the Super Sixes tournament in Hong Kong.

Aqib Javed says that more T20 internationals have strengthened the bench strength and as a selector I am satisfied.

Chairman PCB expressed good wishes for success and better performance in the events of the national team in the new year stating that 2026 will be the year to give Pakistan a strong and honorable position at the global level.
