The T20 World Cup will be played in February and March in India and Sri Lanka together, with Australia playing their first match against Ireland on February 13 in Colombo.

Australian cricket team head coach Andrew Macdonald has confirmed that Australia’s squad for the T20 World Cup will be announced on January 1.

According to Cricket Australia, Test captain Pete Cummins will be included in the T20 World Cup squad, but his final availability will be determined after a scan in January.

Cummins missed the first two Tests of the Ashes series with back trouble, then took six wickets in his return in the Adelaide Test to win the Ashes and was rested for the remaining two Tests after the series was decided.

According to Cricket Australia, Tim David suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Hobart Herkins in the Big Bash League, which has kept him out for the rest of the BBL season, but his chances for the World Cup are bright, according to the coach.

Additionally, Cricket Australia says of fast bowler Josh Hazlewood that Hazlewood suffered a leg injury during the Sheffield Shield match in November but has now resumed running and his rehabilitation is progressing well.

Head coach Andrew McDonald said Pete Cummins would be included in the 15-man squad and a fitness decision would be made later, while Josh Hazlewood and Tim David were available in time.
