KARACHI: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) won their respective matches while the match between Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) ended in a draw as the fifth round of President’s Trophy Grade-I concluded in Karachi on Saturday.

Wapda (93 points), SNGPL (91) and KRL (90) are the top three teams in the standings, making the next two rounds crucial in terms of qualifying for the finals. PTV (77) is fourth. The four teams won three matches each.

SNGPL registered a crushing 10-wicket win over Ghani Glass as they chased a slim 39-run target at the National Bank Stadium.

Sahir Associates started the day 44-3 in the second innings but collapsed to 122 with SBP’s Mohammad Abbas taking 5-38.

SBP’s first-innings lead of 60 allowed them to chase down a small target to claim their second victory in the event.

KRL also registered a nine-wicket victory against PTV at the UBL Sports Complex.

Openers Saad Baig (40 not out) and Shahzaib Khan (27) gave KRL a solid 54-run start, which complemented the work of their team chasing a 75-run target.

Earlier, fast bowler Mohammad Hamza grabbed seven wickets for 39 to help KRL bundle out PTV for 94.

The defending champions had resumed the day at 27-3 and an overnight lead of seven after their first innings total of 414 was matched by KRL’s 434.

Wapda and OGDCL played out a draw after the former set a target of 220 runs and reached 88-3, as time expired at the KCCA Stadium.

Earlier, OGDCL’s Dane Aziz played with 101 not out in his declared second innings total of 267-8.

OGDCL had conceded a 48-run deficit in the first inning and was 117-6 at the end of the third day’s play.
