The world governing body of football (FIFA) has announced that the winning team of the 2026 World Cup will receive 50 million dollars in prize money, which is the record of FIFA’s financial support for the tournament.
According to the report of the foreign news agency, the total prize money of the 2026 World Cup of Football is 655 million dollars, which is about 50% more than the 440 million dollars of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which was distributed among the participating teams in the last World Cup.
The World Cup will be held jointly by the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11, 2026 to July 19, 2026, and for the first time, 48 teams will participate, compared to 32 teams in the previous World Cup.
Argentina’s Football Association awarded $42 million to Lionel Messi’s soccer team, which won the championship after Messi’s team beat France in the final on penalties.
In the World Cup held in Qatar, the runner-up France received 30 million dollars, while the second team that reaches the final in the next World Cup will receive 33 million dollars.
Likewise, the third team will receive $29 million and the other teams that lose in the semifinals will receive $27 million.
The teams eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup will be paid 9 million dollars and all 48 teams will be paid an additional 1.5 million dollars for preparation costs.
