Concerns over the successful hosting of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 have been heightened after fresh cases of the deadly Nipah virus were reported in India.

According to Indian media reports, the tournament is scheduled to be held from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka, but at least 5 cases of Nipah virus have been reported in West Bengal, and among the patients are members of the medical staff.

According to reports, more than 100 people are in quarantine, 5 people infected with the virus including 2 nurses from Kolkata, whose condition is said to be serious.

Nipah virus has been declared a ‘Priority Pathogen’ by the World Health Organization due to the possibility of becoming a global pandemic threat.

Nipah virus has been declared as an endangered pathogen by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to experts, the virus usually reaches humans from animals (mostly through fruits). There is currently no vaccine or specific treatment for this virus.

The pandemic comes at a time when international teams and fans from all over the world are arriving in India for the World Cup, raising questions about security and law and order at the event.
