Australia’s chairman of selectors George Bailey is optimistic that fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and middle-order batsman Tim David will be fit for the World Cup. However, Pat Cummins has expressed doubts about Josh Hazlewood’s availability for the Pakistan tour.
According to sources, Australia are ready to take a limited risk on Pete Cummins’ availability for the T20 World Cup starting in February. As of the 2023 World Cup in 50 form, Travis Head was retained with the team due to injury and was impressive in the latter event.
Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David have been named by the selectors in the provisional squad for the event. Pat Cummins was last seen playing the Adelaide Test in the Ashes series. While Josh Hazlewood is recovering from an Achilles injury and Tim David has been ruled out of the Big Bash League with a hamstring injury.
Speaking to the media at the Sydney Cricket Ground, George Bailey said he does not think Hazlewood and Cummins will be available for the three-match T20I against Pakistan in January. But he believes both will be available for the World Cup.
