News is spreading in the Indian media that the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) has started planning to remove Gautam Gambhir as the coach of Red Ball Cricket.
According to reports in India, a change in the coaching set-up is being considered due to the team’s recent poor performance in Test cricket, while discussions have also started with VVS Laxman to coach the Test team.
Indian media say that VVS Laxman is likely to be entrusted with coaching Red Ball Cricket.
However, the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) dismissed these reports as mere news. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla made it clear that the news about Gautam Gambhir are just rumours.
Rajeev Shukla said that talking about bringing another coach is not true and they should avoid spreading such rumours.
Gautam Gambhir took over after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended in July 2024 and under his coaching, India have won just 7 of the 19 Test matches played so far.
