Karachi:
The possibility of the most expensive deal in the history of Pakistan cricket has started to increase, it will add billions to the PCB coffers, the PSL franchise has made up its mind to pay four and a half billion rupees annually to the PSL broadcaster.
According to reports, PCB had released an advertisement for PSL media rights for four years, several parties came forward, 2 big sports channels wanted to participate in the competition, but it is claimed that one of them has a debt of 4 billion 70 dollars, and the other has to pay more than 60 billion dollars.
The board gave time to both sides to resolve the issue, but the money was not paid, and on this, the cancellation letters were sent to them yesterday.
Sources said that a company buying the PSL franchise is also interested in acquiring the media rights, possibly making a record bid, with some informed circles claiming 4.5 billion rupees per year and 18 billion rupees for 4 years.
The board this time did not allow the consortium to pre-empt the channel arrangement, with the company in question likely to use the state television screens if it wins the bid.
The PCB had issued a tender for the sale of PSL broadcasting and live streaming in Pakistan, any company can bid for either or both, the bid security for both is Rs 10.10 billion, the winning company will adjust the amount when the others will return, although the reserve price has not yet been disclosed but according to a conservative estimate it could be up to 18 billion.
The reserve price for live broadcasting is likely to be up to 6 billion dollars, last year there were 34 PSL matches, now with the addition of 2 new teams, the number will reach 44. With an extra 10 matches per year, the four-year contract will become a five-year contract at its previous value.
Another media channel that participated in the recent bidding was also blacklisted in the past, it is unlikely to bid big, so the field seems empty for a PSL franchise.
According to the rules, after deducting the production costs, in case of a release of more than 3 billion rupees, $500,000 of the excess amount will be kept for contracts with iconic foreign distributors, the remaining 80% will be given to the PCB and 20% to the franchise.
Last year the production cost was more than one crore rupees, the 11th edition of the league will start on March 26.
