The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that next month’s T20 World Cup will go ahead as scheduled. According to the schedule to be announced, all matches of Bangladesh will be played in India.
ICC This decision came after the board meeting held on Wednesday, January 21. In the video conference, the submission of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on the request to transfer its matches from India to Sri Lanka was discussed.
This decision was taken by the ICC after all the security related assessments showed that there is no presence of Bangladeshi players, media persons, officials and fans in India.
It was announced in the meeting that it is not possible to change the venue without security risks close to the tournament. Doing so will damage the credibility of future ICC events and question the impartiality of the institution.
An ICC spokesperson said in a statement that the ICC had been in touch with the BCB for the past few weeks with a view to persuading Bangladesh to play the tournament in India. For this, information was shared with the Bangladesh board, according to which there is no threat to the Bangladesh team in India.
The statement said that despite all these efforts, the Bangladesh board maintained its position and the team’s participation depends on the player’s participation in the domestic league.
