South Africa captain Aiden Markram has described the heavy defeat against New Zealand in the first T20 World Cup semi-final as a ‘huge slap’ for the team.
Aidan Markram said during the presentation that such a defeat after back-to-back wins in the tournament is really disappointing.
According to him, this defeat is also a lesson for the team and now they should move forward more strongly.
Markram said he hoped the pitch at Eden Gardens would help the batting and if the batsmen adopted a more traditional approach, the team could reach around 190 runs.
He said that the team will evaluate this defeat in detail, but first the players will be given a chance to recover emotionally so that they can show better performances in the future.
It is worth mentioning that South Africa scored 169 runs while batting first but New Zealand achieved the target very easily in 12.5 overs.
Finn Allen’s impressive 33-ball unbeaten century played a vital role in New Zealand’s victory.
