Scotland Cricket has announced the 15-man squad for the ICCT Twenty20 World Cup 2026, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
The European team will be led by veteran top batsman Richie Barrington. The announced squad includes 11 players who have represented Scotland in the previous T20 World Cup in West Indies in 2024 and the United States.
The team also includes Tom Bruce, Finlay McCreath and Oliver Davidson who will make their World Cup debuts. Afghanistan fast bowler Zaynullah Ehsan was also called up for the first time in the national team, having recently turned out for Scotland.
In addition to the 15-man squad, Scotland also announced two traveling reserve players and three non-travelling players. Cricket Scotland has revealed that the participation of the team and staff will be subject to the approval of all visa applications as Scotland have entered the competition instead of Bangladesh at the last minute.
It may be recalled that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) earlier this month requested the ICC to shift its team’s scheduled matches in India to Sri Lanka.
The demand came after IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders announced the release of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their squad.
Negotiations between BCB and ICC continued for several days but no solution was found. Later, the ICC decided to continue the program and rejected BCB’s request and gave a 24-hour break.
Bangladesh stood their ground, after which the ICC removed Bangladesh from Group C and replaced them with Scotland.
Scotland will begin their T20 World Cup 2026 journey against West Indies on February 7 in Kolkata. They will play group matches against Italy on February 9 and England on February 14 and in the final group match, Scotland will face Nepal on February 17 in Mumbai.
